The Penguin Historical Atlas of Dinosaurs
Published in Paperback by Penguin USA (Paper) (January, 1997)
Author: Michael J. Benton
Average review score:

A good read.............. however, not very deep
Benton does a good job giving an overview of when and where dinosaurs roamed the earth. The art needed a little more attention to detail and the maps could have been more precise for my taste. But, all in all, I enjoyed the book and would recommend it to all.

A great book outlining the complicated history of dinosaurs.
This book is full of maps and charts on when, where, and how the dinosaurs lived. It is an excellent resource for seriously interested people. The only thing I didn't like about it were the sometimes misleading illustrations. If I remember correctly, Tyrannosaurus is pictured with three manual digits.

Your Defiant Child: Eight Steps to Better Behavior
Published in Hardcover by Guilford Press (06 October, 1998)
Authors: Russell Barkley and Christine Benton
Average review score:

More of the same
This book is the same as everything else that Dr. Barkley has written. There is nothing new here. It is all negative. "Your kid is a monster" attitude. Give him drugs and he will be fine. Don't waste your money. I want something more positive and helpful.

Warning:
This is a well written book that will probably help if you have a child that is mildly challenging. If you know or suspect your child has oppositional defiant disorder, get professional help.

It really, really helped
When my husband got this book we were at our wits' end with our four year old. I was beginning to believe she had no conscience at all. We had a three week wait before we could get in to see the child psychologist. This book helped us understand what was going on, that her behavior wasn't our "fault" but that we were a factor, and that we could actually influence her behavior - which at the time seemed impossible. The process Barkley recommends seemed slow at the time, but looking back, it worked amazingly quickly! We didn't get through all 8 steps; just steps 1-3 made such a difference that we didn't need to. The psychologist we saw, while he hadn't read this book, said it seemed to be very much in line with current clinical practice, and encouraged us to use it. A year and a half later, we do have to go back and make sure we give our child her "special time" (one of the steps) or she slips back into some of her bad habits, but we are actually enjoying being parents now. This is not just a "self-help" type book, though it does give self-tests to help you evaluate your situation. It has a lot of substance, and discusses clinical differences between ADHD, Oppositional Defiance Disorder, and Conduct Disorder in a clear, professional way.

Glove of Darth Vader

Wonderful littles stories to read to the kids
I think these books take place after Truce at Bakura So I have placed themon the timeline at year 5 and 6 ANH. Are these 12 year old books worth reading? Who should read them?

I came across 3 of these, books 1, 4 and 6 of 6 written b the Davids. They are simple stories and come illustrated in simple pen and ink. They are not relavent to the EU, but they are nice little stories about the star wars characters for younf listeners and readers. When reading to the young you need help holding their attention especially my ADHD son. Pictures help. That is also why I have turned to buying and reading the dark horse comics about star wars.

Which is better? I like the comics better, but sometimes, with all those beautifully colored and inked pictures and the varying panels, it is hard for the kids to follow. But these simple little bantam Skylark books are sometimes perfect. Amazon actually had 73 new and used of the 1st book in the series when I wrote this in 2003.

a book for junior Star Wars readers
This book in my opinion is for kids 6-10,no older. When the evil self-proclaimed son of the emperor Trioculus takes hold of the throne (with the help of Grand Moff Hissa & the Commitee of Grand Moffs),only Luke and his friends can stop him. Now Trioculus must find the indestructible right-hand Glove of Darth Vader. Supreme Prophet of the Dark Side Kaddan predicted that the next ruler will wear the Glove of Darth Vader! Then Trioculus gets a message from a imperiel named Captain Dunwell saying that he perhaps has found the Glove of Darth Vader!!! Dunwell runs a factory which butchers Waladones. The whale-like Waladones are intelligent sea creatures that live in the oceans of Mon Calamari. Luke and Acbar go to Mon Calamari to save the Waladons. But the leader Waladon Leviathor (the last great white waladon) is captured by Dunwell. But I won't spoil the suprising conclusions. May I note that the only characters that act like themsalves are C-3PO and R2-D2. The pictures of Luke are highly distorted and Acbar is a wimp. But this is good for kids who are not able to read bigger Star Wars books.

People, these were wrote for children! Not adults!
These books were meant for children NOT ADULTS! Therefore they need not be constant with the other books that were made for big boys and girls! I really don't think a child will care weather or not Luke flies a Y-wing or X-wing or if it doesn't correspond with the Thrawn trilogy! Children most likely wouldn't be found reading a novel like Heir to the Empire anyway! I bought this book for my friend's younger brother and I skimmed through it. No, TARKIN WAS NOT THE ONLY GRAND MOFF! IN THE MOVIES YES, BUT IN THE GALAXY, NO! DARTH VADER WAS THE ONLY DARK LORD OF THE SITH IN THE MOVIES BUT THERE WERE OBVIOUSLY MORE OF THEM BEFORE HIM! If you're mad at this author for it then also be mad at Zhan because in the Hand of Thrawn saga one of his bad guys is (suprise suprise) a Grand Moff! These stories entertained my friend's little brother greatly. He felt like he was like his big brother and me who were always talking about all the Star Wars novels. These are excellent books for the younger generation that they were meant for. Face it. Star Wars isn't just for the 20+ year old age group it once was. The Special Edition changed that, therefor it was a success.

This book is pretty boring, with few interesting parts. The one redeeming point is the chapter dedicated to Tales from the Crypt. E.C. RULES!!! VIVA LAS VEGAS!!!!!

a moving story
i thought this book was amazingly moving. it portrays a prostitutes life. her drug, law, and family problems all in one. i think the reason i liked it so much is because it was so real.even though it is a fiction book, there are really people out there with the same problems.

The Dinosaur Encyclopedia
Published in Library Binding by Julian Messner (March, 1985)
Authors: Michael Benton, Jim Channell, Mike Benton, and Bernard Robinson
Average review score:

UGHHH!
This book is good for one so out of date. However, it mentions two pioneers in the field of paleontology (Joseph Leidy, E.D. Cope), yet does not mention the fact that they worked for The Academy of Natural Sciences of Philadelphia. The first dino skeleton ever displayed by Leidy (hadrosuarus foulkii) was displayed at the Academy. It is a sad day when you dicuss the history of paleontology yet neglect to mention the Academy.

needs some updating
This book is 16 years old and needs some updating but it also contains a large amount of valid and valuable stuff. It is interesting to compare it with newer books about dinosaurs and see how much more we know about our reptilian predecessors than in 1984. Dino fans, give this one a chance!

Dossier Benton
Published in Paperback by French & European Pubns (01 February, 2001)
Author: Patricia Cornwell
Average review score:

This is not the next Scarpetta novel!
This is not the long-awaited next novel in the Kay Scarpetta series! Instead, it is merely a French translation of "The Last Precinct". ... I rated this as two stars because most readers of this English-language review are likely to be disappointed by the book, since it is not a new book as they were hoping for. If I had written this review in French I would have given the book 4 stars.
